Brampton seeks proposals for Heritage Theatre Block redevelopment

Ontario Construction News staff writer

The city of Brampton is soliciting development proposals from developers interested in transforming the Heritage Theatre Block and adjacent city-owned properties into a mixed-use complex.

The city said Monday it has issued a request for proposal (RFP) as part of its plan to revitalize downtown Brampton.

The Heritage Theatre Block, at the southeast corner of Main Street North and Theatre Lane, is a historic landmark that includes the Heritage Theatre and three mixed-use commercial and residential buildings.

The city said it envisions the revitalized area to include a range of attractions and services including arts and culture venues, restaurants, local businesses, post-secondary institutions and additional housing.

The redevelopment project is expected to complement the Rose Theatre, Garden Square and the Innovation District, which are already under transformation and redevelopment.

As part of the project, the city said developers must incorporate sustainable design and features into their submissions that will enhance the character of the area and make it more attractive and livable.

Proponents are required to submit proposals to ID*@******on.ca by 2 p.m. on April 30.
