The City of Edmonton is moving forward with the next phases of the Edmonton Exhibition Lands development, marking significant milestones for the long-term transformation of the area.

In November, utility servicing work began on the first residential parcels, laying the groundwork for neighbourhood-level construction of initial residential units, which is anticipated to start in 2026. Full construction of the first homes is expected to be completed by early 2027.

Construction has also started on the new Edmonton Urban Farm, located near 73 Street at Borden Park Road NW. The farm is expected to open in 2026, offering a community-focused space for urban agriculture and learning.

Meanwhile, on-site preparation work has begun at the Edmonton Spectrum property, formerly the Northlands Park Racetrack & Casino.

The demolition project, which started in fall 2025, is scheduled for completion in spring 2026. Once complete, the cleared land will allow additional residential parcels to be developed, supporting the eastward and northward expansion of the Exhibition Lands.

“The Exhibition Lands site is a prime infill opportunity, located along three major arterial roads and a transit rail line, under five kilometres from the centre of Edmonton’s downtown and less than two kilometres from the Yellowhead Trail transcontinental highway,” said Lovey Grewal, Project Lead for Edmonton Exhibition Lands with the City’s Real Estate Branch.

The Edmonton Exhibition Lands development represents a unique opportunity for new residential growth just minutes from downtown. The city will continue to work with private development partners and follow a market-driven approach to complete the full build-out. For more information, visit ExhibitionLands.ca.

“We’re really excited for these significant milestones in the Exhibition Lands development,” Grewal added. “Once the demolition project is complete, that will open the door for our team to prepare the site for eventual residential development. This site will complement our current work in the southwest of the area, and we look forward to the first residential units coming onto the market in the next few years.”
