MISSISSAUGA – Bird Construction Inc. says iit has been named the preferred proponent by Infrastructure Ontario (IO) to design and build a major, yet-unidentified, hospital project in the province.

The company announced on Monday that it will proceed with the project under a “collaborative contracting model with a target price,” a method that involves the contractor early in the design phase to finalize scope and cost.

The selection positions Bird to enter into exclusive negotiations with IO to finalize the project details.

“This significant milestone reflects Bird’s expertise in delivering complex institutional infrastructure and reinforces our strategic focus on nationally significant sectors such as healthcare,” said Teri McKibbon, President and CEO of Bird, in a statement.

McKibbon highlighted the benefits of the procurement model, stating it “enables meaningful collaboration with stakeholders and drives innovation, efficiency, and value throughout the delivery process.”

The specific hospital, its location, and the total value of the contract have not yet been disclosed. The company stated that further details are expected in the coming months.

“As demand for accessible, high-quality healthcare facilities grows across Canada, we’re proud to be a trusted partner in building critical infrastructure that supports our communities,” McKibbon said.

The win represents a significant new project in the pipeline for Bird, a major player in Canada’s institutional construction market.
